Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings Preview & Picks

Who will win this opening-night battle of playoff contenders?

Check back here on Tuesday morning for our free Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings tips.

Head To Head

  • Colorado Avalanche lead the all-time series 80-75-16
  • Los Angeles Kings won 5-4 when the two teams last met on April 12

Colorado Avalanche Form

Colorado enter the new season with their sights set on going all the way and lifting the Stanley Cup.

The Avalanche have been playoff fixtures since 2018, making the postseason in each of the previous eight campaigns.

Their best run came in 2022 when they beat Nashville, St Louis and Edmonton, before downing Tampa Bay 4-2 to win the championship.

Colorado have struggled to make an impact in the postseason since then though, bowing out quickly in each of the past three seasons.

Last year the Avalanche went 49-29-4 in the regular season, only to lose a seven-game showdown with Dallas in the first round of the playoffs.

Los Angeles Kings Form

Los Angeles also come into the new season targeting a playoff run and a possible Stanley Cup crown.

The Kings last lifted ice hockey’s most prestigious trophy back in 2014 when they blew out the New York Rangers in the finals, winning the series 4-1.

They suffered a hangover the following year though, missing out on the playoffs, and that proved to be the start of a rollercoaster run for the team from the ‘Big Apple’.

Los Angeles have found some consistency over the past few years however, making the postseason in four straight campaigns.

The problem is the Kings have failed to make it past the first round, losing to Edmonton in each of those four seasons.
