Dallas booked their place in the conference semi-finals by battling past Colorado in seven games.
The Stars earned their place in the postseason by going 50-26-6 to finish second in the Central Division, but made a rough start to the playoffs as they lost 5-1 at home.
They rebounded to take their second home game, 4-3 in overtime, and backed that up in their first road game of the series as they won 2-1 in overtime in Colorado.
Dallas surrendered the series lead with a 4-0 loss on the road, only to regain it with a 6-2 blowout of the Avalanche when they returned home.
The Stars missed out on the chance to clinch on the road as they lost 7-4 in Game 6, but with the stakes at their highest they won 4-2 in Game 7.
Winnipeg Jets Form
Winnipeg enter this series having also gone seven games in the opening round of the postseason.
The Jets went 56-22-4 to win the Central Division, and they enjoyed a flying start to the playoffs as they won back-to-back home meetings with St Louis, 5-3 and 2-1.
They failed to maintain that momentum on the road though, as they surrendered their two-game lead with 7-2 and 5-1 defeats.
Winnipeg regained the series lead with a 5-3 win at home, only to again give it up on the road as they lost 5-2 in St Louis in Game 6.
The Jets finally got the job done in Game 7 though, as they returned home to edge St Louis in overtime, 4-3.
Verdict
These two teams went the distance in their respective first-round series, and another marathon contest could be on the cards here.
