The Oilers, who went 49-27-6 in the regular season, cruised through the first round of the playoffs with a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles.
The second round proved to be much tougher though, as they needed all seven games to finally dispatch Vancouver.
Edmonton avoided elimination with a 5-1 home win in Game 6, and then clinched their place in the conference finals by beating the Canucks 3-2 in Game 7.
The Oilers backed that road win up with another to start this series with the Stars, winning 3-2 in double overtime in Dallas on Thursday night.
Dallas Stars Form
Dallas go into the second game of the Western Conference Finals looking to level it at 1-1 before heading out on the road.
The Stars, who went 52-21-9 in the regular season, are no stranger to digging themselves into an early hole, having lost the first game in all three series so far.
They dropped back-to-back home games against Vegas, but they rebounded to win four of the next five meetings, completing the comeback with a 2-1 victory in Game 7.
Dallas dropped the series opener against Colorado too, but they answered with a three-game win streak and then bounced back a 5-3 loss with a series-clinching 2-1 win in overtime.
Now the Stars must stage another postseason fightback in this series with Edmonton, having lost 3-2 in double overtime in Game 1.
Verdict
Winning back-to-back games in Dallas will be tough, but there are reasons to believe in Edmonton.
The Oilers have been stacking up road wins in the 2024 playoffs, while the Stars have been struggling to get the job done on the home ice.
