Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs Preview & Picks

Will Toronto open the new season with a victory?

Check back here on Wednesday morning for our free Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs tips.

Head To Head

  • Montreal Canadiens lead the all-time series 413-335-102
  • Toronto Maple Leafs won 1-0 in overtime when the two teams last met on April 12

Montreal Canadiens Form

Montreal enter the new campaign looking to build on last season’s performance, which ended their playoff drought.

The Canadiens made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2021, only to suffer a 4-1 series defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay.

They then suffered what appeared to be a major hangover from that disappointment, as they missed the playoffs in each of the next three seasons.

Montreal finally ended their postseason drought earlier this year when a 40-31-11 record was enough to get them into the playoffs.

However, the Canadiens’ stay proved to be brief as they were beaten 4-1 in the first round by Washington.

Toronto Maple Leafs Form

Toronto also enter the new season looking to rebound from a quick playoff exit last time around.

The Maple Leafs have been a postseason fixture for the best part of a decade, but they have failed to turn regular season success into playoff glory.

They have suffered a string of first-round exits during this run, and have never made it passed the second round.

Toronto gave themselves an opportunity to end that trend earlier this year as a 42-26-4 record secured top spot in the Atlantic Division standings.

The Maple Leafs downed Ottawa 4-2 in the opening round, only to again fail to make it past the second round as they were beaten 4-3 by eventual champions Florida.
