New Jersey enter this game on the back of a shock win but in rough form with five defeats in their last eight games.
The Devils opened 2024 with back-to-back wins, beating Washington 6-3 and Chicago 4-2, but their form quickly tailed off.
They lost 6-4 to Vancouver and 4-3 in overtime to Tampa Bay, before seeing off Florida 4-1 to avoid a third straight defeat.
New Jersey failed to build on that though, losing 3-0 in Boston and 3-2 at home to Montreal, before again avoiding three straight defeats thanks to a 4-1 win in Columbus.
The Devils were immediately brought back down to Earth by a 6-2 defeat to Dallas, but their response was a good one in the form of a 6-5 overtime win against Vegas.
Carolina Hurricanes Form
Carolina come into this matchup in decent form, having won for the ninth time in 12 games last night.
The Hurricanes wrapped up 2023 with a three-game win streak, and kept that run going as they won their first two games of 2024 – a 6-1 blowout of the New York Rangers and a 6-2 win in Washington.
Their run was halted by a shootout loss to St Louis, but they responded with a 6-3 win over Anaheim and a 3-2 overtime victory against Pittsburgh.
Carolina then lost 5-2 at home to Los Angeles, before taking down Detroit, 4-2, to avoid back-to-back defeats.
The Hurricanes failed to follow that up as they lost 5-2 to Minnesota lover the weekend, but they did rebound last night with a 3-2 win in Boston.
Verdict
Carolina are the better team in better form, so we expect them to get the job done against New Jersey.
