The Flyers endured a five-game losing skid before the All-Star break, but when they returned to action they hit a hot streak.
A 2-1 win in Florida sparked a four-game win streak that saw them return home to beat Winnipeg 4-1, Seattle 3-2 and Arizona 5-3.
Philadelphia’s form dipped after that though, as they lost 4-3 (OT) in Toronto and 6-3 at New Jersey, before downing Chicago 3-1.
The 76ers then lost 2-1 to the New York Rangers and 7-6 in Pittsburgh, only to avoid a third straight defeat by beating Tampa Bay 6-2 at home.
Washington Capitals Form
Washington return home on the back of a defeat, but in decent form thanks to four wins in their last six games.
The Capitals’ playoff aspirations took a hit with a six-game losing skid around the All-Star break, and when they halted it with a 3-0 win over Boston, they failed to build on it.
They then lost 3-2 in overtime against Vancouver, before suffering a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Colorado.
Washington started to turn things around after those losses though, beating Montreal 4-3, New Jersey 6-2 and Tampa Bay 5-3 for their best run of form since the second half of December.
The Capitals were unable to make it four-in-a-row though, losing 3-2 in overtime in Florida, and they then failed to back up a 6-3 win over Ottawa as they lost 8-3 in Detroit.
Verdict
Philadelphia have had Washington's number in recent meetings, and we expect that trend to continue tonight.
