Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers Preview & Picks

Will New York open with a home win?

Check back here on Tuesday morning for our free Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers tips.

Head To Head

  • New York Rangers lead the all-time series 159-148-40
  • New York Rangers won 5-3 when the two teams last met on February 23

Pittsburgh Penguins Form

Pittsburgh come into the new campaign looking to rebound from their first losing season since 2005/06.

The Penguins went 22-46-14 that year, but they rebounded from that setback with a playoff appearance the following year.

They then topped that with back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals wins over Detroit in 2008 and 2009 to reign over the National Hockey League.

Pittsburgh claimed the championship in 2016 and 2017 too as they were a fixture of the NHL postseason over a 15-year period.

However, the Penguins have now gone three seasons without making the playoffs, with their most recent campaign seeing them finish 34-36-12.

New York Rangers Form

New York enter the 2025/26 season looking to bounce back from their postseason absence last time around.

The Rangers had appeared in the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons, making the conference finals on two occasions.

However, that run was brought to a halt last year as they missed out a postseason berth by just three games.

New York finished with a winning record, having gone 39-36-7, but that was only good enough for fifth place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Rangers were still in the race in March, but a handful of losing runs ultimately ended their hopes of extending the season.
