2026 World Cup Golden Boot Odds

With the 2026 World Cup now fast approaching, attention is beginning to turn to the Golden Boot market and the leading contenders to finish as the tournament’s top scorer.

From proven World Cup stars like Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi to in-form forwards including Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo, there is no shortage of elite attacking talent in the running for the Golden Boot prize.

Let’s take a look at some of the favourites to finish as top scorer at the the FIFA World Cup this summer.

Kylian Mbappe

  • Age: 27
  • International Record: 94 Caps - 56 Goals
  • Odds: 7.0 (Favourite)

The Real Madrid star heads into this summer’s tournament as the favourite to win the Golden Boot for a second successive World Cup.

Mbappe first lit up the global stage at the 2018 finals in Russia, scoring four goals as France claimed their second world title. He raised the bar even higher in Qatar four years later, netting eight times - including a hat-trick in the final - to finish as the tournament’s top scorer.

While currently nursing a hamstring injury, Mbappe has still enjoyed another outstanding season in Spain, scoring 41 goals in 41 appearances for Real Madrid.

With France likely to enjoy another deep run this summer, the 27-year-old looks a reliable option to come close to repeating those previous World Cup exploits.

Harry Kane

  • Age: 32
  • International Record: 112 Caps - 78 Goals
  • Odds: 8.0

Another leading contender for the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot, Harry Kane, has been in sensational form for both Bayern Munich and England in the last year.

Enjoying his best-ever campaign in an outstanding Bayern side, Kane has scored 54 goals in just 47 appearances for the Bavarian powerhouse.

With Bayern romping to Bundesliga glory, Kane has enjoyed plenty of rest in recent weeks and should come into the tournament fresh and ready to fire.

England’s all-time leading goalscorer with 78 international strikes, the 32-year-old looks a reliable choice to be in the running to claim Golden Boot glory in July.

Erling Haaland

  • Age: 25
  • International Record: 49 Caps - 55 Goals
  • Odds: 15.0

The Norwegian goal machine will play at his first World Cup in 2026 and, at just 25, will spearhead a Norway side widely viewed as dangerous dark horses.

Haaland has enjoyed another prolific season for Manchester City, scoring 25 Premier League goals in 33 appearances, while his international record is even more remarkable.

The Norwegian hitman has scored a quite remarkable 55 goals in 49 caps for Norway, including a ridiculous 16 in World Cup qualifying as the Norwegians strolled to their first qualification since 1998.

Although Norway have been grouped in a tough section featuring France and Senegal, Haaland has every chance of reproducing the kind of form that puts him firmly in the Golden Boot conversation.

Lionel Messi

  • Age: 38
  • International Record: 198 Caps - 116 Goals
  • Odds: 13.0

Few would have imagined that the great Argentine would still be around in 2026, yet the legendary Inter Miami forward is set to feature at a remarkable sixth World Cup this summer.

Despite his advancing years, Messi has still retained his magic touch, averaging close to a goal per game since joining the Herons in 2023. With 116 international goals to his name, it would be foolish to write off the veteran in what will surely be his last World Cup finals apperance.

With Argentina among the favourites to defend their crown in the Americas, Messi is once again likely to be central to a dangerous Albiceleste attack.

Drawn alongside Jordan, Austria and Algeria, the holders should have every chance to make a fast start, and with Messi likely to feature heavily, the veteran could yet find himself in contention to claim the Golden Boot this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Age: 41
  • International Record: 226 Caps - 143 Goals
  • Odds: 25.0

One of the oldest players set to feature in the Americas this summer, the Al Nassr forward remains one of the deadliest finishers in the game.

Even at 41, the ageless veteran continues to spearhead a strong Portuguese side with serious ambitions of going all the way in 2026.

Despite a poor showing at Euro 2024, Ronaldo has continued to defy his critics, scoring five goals in Portugal’s successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

With 15 goals in 21 internationals over the past two years, the legendary forward remains one to watch as he makes his sixth World Cup finals apperance in the Americas. After avoiding any further suspension following his red card against Ireland, he will be available for Portugal’s opener as he looks to add to his eight World Cup goals.

Best of the Rest

Other players who could make a major impact in the Golden Boot market this summer include the likes of Lamine Yamal (16.0), Vinicius Junior (20.0), Lautaro Martinez (25.0) and Julian Alvarez (40.0).

Barcelona forward Yamal has the talent to explode on the biggest stage, while Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior remains one of the most dangerous one-on-one attackers in world football.

Argentina pair Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez could also offer some value, depending on who gets the nod to lead the Albiceleste attack alongside Lionel Messi.
