Both players have shown vulnerability in past title matches against top ten opposition, so siding with the underdog makes sense in a close contest.

As the top seed and runner up in the last two editions, Alex de Minaur has a strong chance to lift the title, and the price on him looks too good to ignore.

Stats - Winning Streaks Set Up Blockbuster

  • Alex de Minaur has won 10 of his 12 matches this season.
  • His most recent title success came in an ATP 500 level event: Washington '25.
  • FAA is on an eight match winning streak, all on indoor hard courts.
  • He is aiming for back to back indoor titles after winning Montpellier last week.

Head-to-Head: FAA Leads 4-2

De Minaur One Win Away From Rotterdam Breakthrough

Alex de Minaur started the tournament as the title favorite and has largely justified that tag with solid performances this week. He had a brief scare in the quarterfinals where he needed three sets to get past Botic Van De Zandschulp.

He has been the most consistent player in Rotterdam in recent years and is now into his third consecutive final here. De Minaur was runner up in the last two editions and once again finds himself in the title clash.

In 2024 he fell to Jannik Sinner in two tight sets, and in 2025 he lost a three set battle to Carlos Alcaraz. Those defeats came against elite opponents and underline how close he has been to lifting the trophy.

De Minaur owns 10 ATP titles in his career but none of them have come on indoor hard courts. He is 0-6 in indoor finals and will be eager to finally break that streak at this venue.

Overall he holds a 10-11 record in tour level finals and is still searching for a first win over a top ten player in a championship match. That remains one of the final hurdles as he looks to convert another strong run into a title.

Auger-Aliassime Riding Indoor Surge Into Rotterdam Final

Felix Auger Aliassime arrived in Rotterdam in strong form after winning the title in Montpellier last week, a result that kick started his season. That run helped him build momentum following a quiet January.

He has carried that form into Rotterdam with another impressive week, reaching the final without dropping a set. In the semifinals he produced a dominant win over Alexander Bublik to book his place in the title match.

Indoor hard courts have played a major role in the Canadian’s success on the main tour. He owns nine ATP titles in his career and eight of them have come on this surface.

Auger Aliassime has already played two finals in Rotterdam, winning the title in 2022 and finishing runner up in 2020. He has plenty of experience of going deep at this event and tends to perform well in these conditions.

Overall he has contested 22 tour level finals and holds a 10-12 record in championship matches. Against top ten players in finals he has struggled, with just one win from seven attempts.

Verdict

With both players ranked close and carrying mixed records in finals, this contest could come down to very fine margins. In such situations the value often lies with the underdog in what looks like a tight matchup.

De Minaur has come close to winning the title here in the last two editions and now gets a more manageable opponent on paper. He looks well placed to finally capitalize on his strong runs at this event and go one step further.
