Alcaraz Eyes Monte Carlo Repeat

Carlos Alcaraz suffered a disappointing loss in Miami, falling to Sebastian Korda in three sets in the third round. It marked just his second loss to a player outside the top 20 in the last 12 months.

Despite that setback, he enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning 17 consecutive matches and lifting titles at the Australian Open and Doha before his run was halted by Daniil Medvedev in Dubai.

Last year, he also exited early in Miami but bounced back by winning the Monte Carlo Masters title. He will aim to repeat that pattern this week.

Alcaraz holds a 7-1 record in opening-round matches at clay Masters events, with his only loss coming in Monte Carlo in 2022.

Baez Claims First Monaco Win

Sebastian Baez defeated former champion Stan Wawrinka in straight sets in the first round of Monte Carlo. It marked his first-ever win at this event after four previous opening-round exits.

He has produced solid results this season, including semifinals in Buenos Aires and Santiago, a final in Auckland, and a third-round run at Indian Wells.

However, he failed to defend significant points in Rio de Janeiro and Bucharest, which saw him drop outside the top 60 in the rankings.

Baez heads into the next round with a 7-10 record in second-round matches at Masters events, including six losses in his last seven.
