Daniil Medvedev arrives with strong momentum after winning the title in Dubai and extending his streak with an opening win at the Indian Wells Masters.

While he should be favored to win here, Sebastian Baez is currently in excellent form and playing with plenty of confidence.

Medvedev Shows Authority in Desert

Daniil Medvedev defeated in-form Alejandro Tabilo 6-4 6-2 to move into the next round in Indian Wells. He did not face a single break point and converted three of eight chances.

Medvedev had slipped close to dropping out of the top 20 after disappointing results during the North American swing last year.

However, he has since regained his rhythm and confidence on tour. This season he has already won titles in Brisbane and Dubai and reached the fourth round at the Australian Open.

Medvedev holds a 4-3 record in third-round matches in Indian Wells, including finals in 2023 and 2024 and a semifinal last year.

Baez Produces Big Upset in Desert

Sebastian Baez produced an upset by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-1 to reach the third round in Indian Wells. Earlier this week he also beat Tseng Chun-hsin in straight sets.

This is the first time Baez has recorded back-to-back main-draw wins at a hard-court Masters event in his career.

He started the season strongly by winning all three of his matches at the United Cup, reaching the final in Auckland and adding semifinal runs in Buenos Aires and Santiago.

The run is impressive considering his struggles last season, when he failed to win multiple matches on tour from April until the end of the year.
