Felix Auger-Aliassime is playing his first match on clay this year, so a bit of rust is expected. That could allow this matchup to stay more competitive than it might otherwise be.

  • He has a 2–6 record in Monte Carlo.

Auger Aliassime Seeks Deep Run

Felix Auger-Aliassime has made a solid start to the season after an early exit at the Australian Open. He followed it up with a title in Montpellier, a final in Rotterdam, a semifinal in Dubai, and a fourth-round run at Indian Wells.

He now has a good opportunity to strengthen his position in the top 10. Last year, he struggled on clay, losing in five of six events, with his only standout result being a semifinal in Hamburg.

Auger-Aliassime has played Monte Carlo six times and won just two main-draw matches, including four opening-round exits. With improved form this season, he will aim for a deeper run this week.

Cilic Opens With Dominant Win

Marin Cilic opened his Monte Carlo campaign with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alexander Shevchenko. He saved four of five break points and won 75% of his first-serve points.

He has shown encouraging form this season despite a few early exits, reaching the semifinal in Dallas and the third round at the Australian Open and Miami.

Cilic has made 13 main-draw appearances in Monte Carlo, with seven ending in or before the second round. He has not won consecutive matches here since 2017.

Verdict

While Auger-Aliassime is still expected to come through, the value lies in a longer match. Auger-Aliassime to win + over 21.5 games looks like a strong combination here.
