Karim Bennani had the best day of his career recently, securing his first-ever main tour win in a thrilling three-set match. He will be full of confidence, but this is a big step up against an experienced Yannick Hanfmann, who enjoys playing in altitude conditions.

Hanfmann Holds Experience Edge

  • Karim Bennani had not beaten a Top 400 player before this week.
  • He failed to win multiple matches in two of his three events in 2026.
  • Yannick Hanfmann failed to win multiple matches in five of six events in 2026.
  • He has won 19 of his last 23 matches vs outside Top 100 players.

Bennani Claims Breakthrough Tour Win

Karim Bennani made the most of his first tour-level main-draw wildcard, defeating world No. 90 Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. He held serve throughout the match and converted three of his eight break-point chances.

This is the biggest win of his career, having previously competed only on the ITF Futures circuit. Before this week, he had never beaten a player ranked inside the top 450 and had also lost both prior qualifying attempts here.

This breakthrough result should boost his confidence and belief at a higher level. He will now look to build on this momentum in the coming months to progress further in his career.

Hanfmann Edges Past De Jong

Yannick Hanfmann defeated Jesper de Jong 7-6, 6-4 to reach the second round in Marrakech. He recovered from a break deficit in the second set to close out the match in straight sets.

The German has played six tournaments this year and recorded multiple wins only once, during his run to the Santiago final,  his first tour-level final in six years.

The 34-year-old has no ranking points to defend until July. A few more wins in the coming weeks could push him closer to a return to the top 50.

Verdict

While Bennani’s run may end here, he can still stay competitive, making over 18.5 games and Bennani +6.5 games handicap solid angles to consider.
