Tallon Griekspoor’s fitness remains a slight concern given his recent lack of match play since Dubai, but the break may have helped him recover and reset. Against Luca Van Assche, who also hasn’t shown consistent form or peak physical condition, he still looks well placed.

Griekspoor Eyes Stable Start

  • Luca Van Assche has a 5–23 career record vs Top 50 players.
  • He is chasing his third tour-level quarterfinal, first since 2023.
  • Tallon Griekspoor lost five of his last seven matches vs outside Top 100 players.
  • He has a 2–1 record in opening-round matches in Marrakech.

This will be their first meeting.

Van Assche Shows Grit In Victory

Luca Van Assche defeated Hugo Gaston 6-4, 7-6 to reach the second round in Marrakech. He saved nine of 13 break points and converted five of his 11 chances.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed strong results on the Challenger circuit, winning titles in Quimper, Lille, and Pau. Those performances have helped him move closer to a return to the top 100.

Van Assche has recorded multiple main-draw wins on tour only three times, reaching the quarterfinals in Hamburg and Metz and the third round at the Australian Open in 2024. He will look to build on that this week.

Griekspoor Seeks Continuation Of Progress

Tallon Griekspoor returns to action after retiring in the Dubai final against Daniil Medvedev due to a hamstring injury. He had impressed earlier that week with wins over Alexander Bublik, Jakub Mensik, and Andrey Rublev.

He had a poor start to the season, losing all four matches in Australia, including a straight-sets defeat to Ethan Quinn at the Australian Open.

He bounced back well with quarterfinal runs in Montpellier and Rotterdam before reaching the final in Dubai.

Griekspoor has played in Marrakech three times and improved with each appearance. He lost in the first round in 2022, reached the quarterfinal in 2023, and made the final in 2025.

Verdict

Assuming Griekspoor is fit enough, Griekspoor to win looks like the most logical direction in this matchup.
