Mariano Navone reached the final in Bucharest with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 comeback win over Botic van de Zandschulp. He saved two match points, recovered from 3-5 in the second set, and came back from breaks down in the decider.

He has found form at the right time. Before this week, he had not recorded multiple main-draw wins on tour since Winston-Salem, with his only standout result being the Cap Cana Challenger title.

This is his third tour-level final and second in Bucharest. He lost his previous finals to Sebastian Baez in Rio 2024 and Marton Fucsovics here in 2024, and now gets another chance to lift the title.

Merida Aguilar Continues Dream Run

Daniel Merida Aguilar reached his maiden tour-level final with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 win over Fabian Marozsan. He missed chances in the first set but bounced back strongly to dominate the next two.

This is his fourth consecutive three-set win this week and his third comeback from a set down, highlighting his resilience. He has won six matches as a qualifier, including victories over Adrian Mannarino and Fabian Marozsan.

It marks the biggest breakthrough of his career. He made his main-draw debut earlier this year at Indian Wells and had never beaten a top-50 player before this week.

Verdict

This looks like a big opportunity for Navone to capitalize. Navone to win is the primary pick, with Navone to win in straight sets also very much in play given the gap in experience.
