Roman Andres Burruchaga is on a six-match winning streak on clay and has built strong momentum with plenty of matches on the surface this year. As a natural clay-court player, he looks capable of putting up a serious challenge here.

Burruchaga Faces Tough Step

  • Burruchaga is aiming for his second career quarterfinal on tour.
  • He has a 2–4 record vs Top 50 players.
  • Brandon Nakashima reached the quarterfinal in both his Houston appearances.
  • He has an 8–2 record vs outside Top 50 players this year.

Burruchaga Extends Winning Streak

Roman Andres Burruchaga moved into the second round in Houston with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Adam Walton. He won 75% of his first-serve points and saved five of six break points.

This victory extends his winning streak to six matches after lifting the Challenger title in São Paulo. He also reached another Challenger final in Rosario earlier this year, though he has struggled for consistency outside those events.

Burruchaga has recorded multiple main-draw wins on tour only once, reaching the quarterfinal in Gstaad last year. He comes into this run with a 2-4 record against top-50 players.

Nakashima Builds Momentum In Houston

Brandon Nakashima moved into the next round in Houston with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Martin Damm. He fired nine aces and won 84% of his first-serve points.

He has recorded multiple main-draw wins in only two of the seven tournaments he has played this year, reaching the semifinal in Acapulco and the final in Brisbane.

Nakashima has already dropped key points during the Sunshine Double, and failing to defend his semifinal points this week could lead to a further drop in the rankings.

He has played here twice before and won at least two matches in both appearances, reaching the quarterfinal in 2024 and the semifinal in 2025.

Verdict

Backing Burruchaga to win a set is the main play, with a small punt on him to win the match also making good sense given his current form.
