Shelton has been in better form than Fritz in recent weeks, while Fritz continues to struggle for rhythm and fitness this season. With momentum on his side and priced as a slight underdog, Shelton looks the more appealing option for the match winner.

That said, the stronger angle could be on overs and tiebreaks, as both players rely heavily on their serve and have played several tight sets this week. A close contest with plenty of games looks likely.

Tight Sets Dominating Fritz–Shelton Showdown

  • Six of Fritz’s sets this week have ended 7-5 or 7-6.
  • Two of his four matches have gone the full three sets.
  • Three of Shelton’s four matches this week have finished in three sets.
  • Shelton has played four sets decided by 7-5 or 7-6 this week.

Fritz Battles Through to Dallas Final

Taylor Fritz has had to battle through every round this week, going the distance against Marcus Giron and Sebastian Korda. He was also pushed into two tiebreakers by Marin Cilic in the semifinals.

The tough matches are not surprising given his patchy form and fitness since the start of the 2026 season. He has not looked at his best physically, which has made his path to the final more demanding than expected.

This presents a good opportunity for Fritz to win a title on home soil, something he has not done since Delray Beach in February 2024. It is also his first final in Dallas after three previous appearances where his best result was a semifinal.

Fritz holds a 12-9 record in tour level finals and has been particularly strong against fellow Americans in such matches. He is a perfect 5-0 against American opponents in championship clashes on the main tour.

Shelton Shows Grit to Reach Dallas Final

Ben Shelton has also endured a demanding week in Dallas, with three of his four matches going the full distance. In two of those he dropped the opening set, including his semifinal win over defending champion Denis Shapovalov.

This marks Shelton’s best result in Dallas so far after earlier exits in previous visits, with a semifinal being his prior peak. He has taken a clear step forward this week and shown strong resilience in tight matches.

Shelton enjoyed plenty of success on indoor hard courts at Challenger level with several deep runs, but he is still searching for an indoor title on the main tour. Despite that, he owns a respectable 48-16 record on indoor hard courts.

He has reached five tour level finals and lost three of them, showing he is still developing in championship matches. Against top ten players in finals he has very limited experience and is yet to record a win.

Verdict

Shelton holds a slight edge in the outright market thanks to his better form and confidence levels this season.

The more attractive betting angles could be on overs and tiebreaks, given how well both players have served and the quick conditions in Dallas. Another tight match with long sets looks very likely.
