Humbert Reaches Miami Breakthrough

Ugo Humbert defeated Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 7-6 to reach the round of 16 in Miami. He fired 14 aces and won an impressive 97% of his first-serve points.

This is his best result in Miami in seven appearances. He had never won consecutive matches here before, including two opening-round exits.

The Frenchman has shown flashes of form this season, reaching the final in Adelaide and the semifinal in Rotterdam, but suffered early exits in his other events.

Humbert holds a 4-1 record in Masters round-of-16 matches. His most recent win at this stage came in Paris 2024, which was also the last time he recorded multiple wins at this level.

Cerundolo Edges Three Set Thriller

Francisco Cerundolo defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 to reach the next round in Miami. After letting a 3-1 lead slip in the second set, he came back from a break down in the decider to seal the win.

He is now one win away from defending his points from last year. In four Miami appearances, he has reached at least the quarterfinal three times.

The Argentine had a disappointing second half last season but has bounced back well this year, reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open, winning the title in Buenos Aires, and making the semifinal in Santiago.

Cerundolo holds a 7-6 record in Masters round-of-16 matches but has lost his last three at this stage, including a defeat to Jannik Sinner in Paris last year.
