Houston Roughnecks at Michigan Panthers Preview & Picks

The Under is tipped to cash in this Week 3 matchup.

Neither offense is firing right now so with two good defenses on show, this is likely to be low-scoring.

  • The Under has hit in both of Michigan’s first 2 games
  • The Under has cashed in 1 of Houston’s 2 games so far
  • The two teams are averaging a combined 30.5 points per game
  • Michigan are 1-1 after their first 2 games of the season

Head To Head

  • The all-time series is tied 1-1
  • Michigan Panthers won 29-13 when the two teams last met in April 2023

Houston Roughnecks Form

Houston head back out on the road still seeking their first win of the season after falling short in DC.

The Roughnecks entered the season as one of the least likely teams to go all the way and win the inaugural UFL title.

They have, unfortunately for them, lived up to that billing through the first two weeks of the regular season.

Houston opened up at home and struggled massively on offense as they were beaten 18-12 by Memphis.

The Roughnecks then fell to 0-2 last weekend, as they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot in a 23-18 defeat at DC.

Michigan Panthers Form

Michigan head into their third straight home game looking to improve to 2-1 before they head out on the road for the following two weeks.

Like their visitors, the Panthers were not considered a major contender for the UFL Championship heading into the new season.

They got off to the best possible start though, as they stunned St Louis thanks to a 64-yard field goal from Jake Bates with less than a minute to go.

Michigan’s kicker also showed off his massive leg in Week 2, but this time it proved to be in vain.

The Panthers were far from disgraced though, as they were beaten 20-13 by the back-to-back USFL champion Birmingham Stallions.

Verdict

Two bad offenses coming up against a couple of good defenses – this has low-scoring grind written all over it.

We lean towards Michigan taking it, with the massive leg of kicker Jake Bates likely to play a key role.
