  • Tampa Bay beat Montreal 4-1 in 2021 Stanley Cup Finals
  • The Lightning have won back-to-back world titles
  • Tampa +550 second favorites for 2022 behind +450 Colorado

Tampa Bay could fail in their bid for a Stanley Cup 3-peat, according to the sportsbooks.

The Lightning successfully defended their world title in 2021 by beating Montreal 4-1 in the Stanley Cup Finals.

No team has managed a 3-peat though since New York Islanders won four straight titles between 1980 and 1983, but the bookies are not writing off Tampa.

The Lightning are +550 to lift the Stanley Cup in 2022, with only one team at shorter odds at bet365.

Colorado are the outright favorites at +450 despite them exiting the 2021 playoffs in the second round.

Vegas, the team that beat the Avalanche before suffering a surprise loss to Montreal, are next up at +600.

The sportsbooks clearly believe this could be a three-horse race because no other team are shorter than +1100.

Montreal, who made it to the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals, are out at +2200 alongside the two New York franchises.
