David Benavidez Form
David Benavidez is the interim WBC super-middleweight champion with a professional record of 27-0 (23 KOs).
Benavidez became a world champion for the first time in his career when he beat Ronald Gavril by split decision to win the vacant WBC title.
He made just once defence though, beating Gavril by unanimous decision before being stripped of the title due to failed drug test.
When he returned to action ‘The Mexican Monster’ took out J’Leon Love inside two rounds, and in his next fight he stopped Anthony Dirrell in the ninth to win the WBC super-middleweight title.
A failed weight cut resulted in Benavidez being stripped of the belt before he could make a defence, but the wins kept coming for him.
He stopped Roamer Alexis Angulo in 10 rounds, before beating Ronald Ellis by 11th round TKO and Kyrone Davis by seventh round TKO in 2021.
Those wins earned the 26-year-old a fight for the vacant WBC interim title, and he made short work of David Lemieux, finishing him inside three rounds in his only outing of 2022.
Benavidez then made a successful defence of the belt back in March, beating Caleb Plant by unanimous decision.
Demetrius Andrade Form
Demetrius Andrade is a former world middleweight champion with a professional record of 32-0 (19 KOs).
Andrade became a world champion for the first time in 2013 when he edged Vanes Martirosyan via split decision to win the vacant WBO light-middleweight crown.
He successfully defended that belt once and also won the WBA (Regular) title before making the move up to middleweight.
‘Boo Boo’ challenged for the vacant WBO middleweight title in October 2018 and beat Walter Kautondokwa via unanimous decision.
Andrade knocked out Artur Akavov in the final round of his first defence of the belt, and then bested Maciej Sulacki on points.
His reign continued as he knocked out Luke Keeler in the ninth round of his only fight of 2020, and he then made two successful defences in 2021.
The 35-year-old American bested Liam Williams by unanimous decision, and then stropped Jason Quigley inside two rounds.
It would be over a year before Andrade would fight again, but after surrendering his WBO crown he returned to the ring to beat Demond Nicholson by unanimous decision in January.
Verdict
David Benavidez has been his own worst enemy in his career, but he has been on a tear.
He may have a few issues dealing with Demetrius Andrade, a savvy southpaw, but his output and accuracy is backed to earn the judges’ approval.
