Calgary scraped into the playoffs with a 6-12 record, having won the head-to-head with Saskatchewan.
The Stampeders did not manage to string together victories until October, but when they did it all but secured a postseason place.
They were standing at 4-11 when they faced Saskatchewan on October 13, and a 27-19 victory over the Roughriders put them on the brink.
Calgary then backed that up a week later with one of the upsets of the season, beating playoff opponents, the BC Lions, 41-16 on the road.
The Stampeders failed to wrap up the regular season with a win though, losing 36-13 to Winnipeg.

BC come into the postseason having lost two of their last three games to finish the regular season 12-6.
The Lions made a strong start to the season as they won six of their first seven games, but they cooled off in August.
They lost three times in a four-game spell, before getting back on track with a four-game win streak in September.
BC failed to keep that run going over their final three games though, losing a crucial clash with division rivals Winnipeg, 34-26 in overtime.
The Lions bounced back to beat Hamilton 33-30 on the road, only to then suffer a 41-16 blowout defeat when they hosted playoff opponents Calgary in their regular season finale.
Verdict
BC are the better team, but they have struggled for covers recently and just got destroyed by Calgary.
