College Football Predictions & Picks – Can Georgia Complete SEC Conference Three-Peat?

Alabama was the last to complete a three-peat, claiming a trio of conference titles from 2014 through 2016, but Georgia enter the 2026 campaign with an opportunity to replicate that achievement, having won the SEC in both 2024 and 2025 – following up the 22-19 overtime victory over Texas two years ago with a 28-7 win against Alabama last December.

But can Georgia really make it three-in-a-row?

The encouraging news for Kirby Smart is that Georgia enters this season with more returning starting talent than any other SEC team. More than half of last year's starters are back, including quarterback Gunner Stockton, running backs Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens, and defensive standouts KJ Bolden and Raylen Wilson.

There are still significant losses to replace though. Georgia’s wide receiver room was hit particularly hard, with Zachariah Branch, Colbie Young, Dillon Bell and Noah Thomas all gone, while on defense the Bulldogs lost defensive leader CJ Allen to the NFL and have had to replace other pieces through both recruiting and the portal.

That is where Georgia’s nine portal additions become important. The most significant defensive acquisition is Clemson safety Khalil Barnes, who brings 30 career starts and seven interceptions. Georgia also added Oklahoma defensive back Gentry Williams, USC corner Braylon Conley and East Carolina safety Ja’Marley Riddle, giving Smart more experienced options in the secondary. Edge rusher Amaris Williams also made the jump from Auburn, but an ACL injury is expected to sideline him for the duration of the season.

Offensively, Georgia’s most obvious portal additions are Isiah Canion and Dante Dowdell. Canion arrives from Georgia Tech after producing 450 receiving yards in 2025, and he could become the physical X receiver that Georgia desperately needs. Dowdell, on the other hand, brings SEC experience to a loaded backfield after rushing for 560 yards at Kentucky last season, and his size provides a different dimension from returning backs, Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens. And we know the Dawgs will lean on the run game to take the pressure off quarterback Stockton.

The defense is where Georgia can separate itself from the SEC field. Raylen Wilson is poised to assume a much larger leadership role following Allen’s departure, while Justin Williams, Chris Cole and Zayden Walker give Georgia an exceptional collection of athletic linebackers. Smart specifically identified Wilson as a leader who was sometimes overshadowed by Allen, and believes he is now ready to take ownership of the defense.

Behind them, KJ Bolden and Ellis Robinson headline a secondary that combines elite young talent with experienced additions. Barnes’ ability to play multiple positions gives Smart flexibility to disguise coverages and create matchup problems. The question is whether Georgia can generate more pressure? The Bulldogs recorded only 20 sacks last season, and losing Williams for the year makes that issue even more pressing.
