The Alouettes opened the campaign at home to Toronto, and ran out 28-10 winners over the defending champion Argonauts.
It was an ideal opening for a team that is looking to better their 2024 run to the East Final in the playoffs.
Montreal exploded out of the blocks a year ago as they won 10 of their first 11 games, and despite cooling off over the final several weeks a 12-5-1 record was more than enough to secure playoff football.
The Alouettes fell at the penultimate hurdle in the postseason though, as they were beaten 30-28 by Toronto in the East Final.
Ottawa Redblacks Form
Ottawa go into their home opener looking to bounce back from a season-opening defeat on the road.
The Redblacks opened the season on the road in Saskatchewan, and returned home empty-handed as they were beaten 31-26.
The loss was expected by many, but it was still a disappointing start for a team looking to better last season’s showing, which saw them make the playoffs despite a mixed record.
Ottawa went 9-8-1 during the 2024 regular season, but that was enough to earn them a place in the East Semi-Final.
The Redblacks were no match for Toronto however, losing 58-38 to an Argonauts team that would go on to lift the Grey Cup.
Verdict
Montreal sent a message with the impressive win over Toronto in Week 1, and we expect them to back it up.
The Alouettes defense can put the clamps on winless Ottawa’s offense, ensuring the visitors leave with their perfect record intact.
