  • Preview, predictions, stats & form
The PGA Tour and players return to California to contest the first tournament of the 2023/24 PGA Tour season, with the Fortinet Championship on the line. Who will walk away with the honours come Sunday?

Max Homa returns to defend his title after a one-stroke victory over Danny Willett in 2022 and will attempt to become the first three-time winner of the Fortinet Championship.

Past major winners who will tee off on the North Course include Justin Thomas, Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Webb Simpson, Geoff Ogilvy, and Jimmy Walker.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Max Homa

Max Homa has been in excellent touch on the PGA Tour since the beginning of July, placing T21 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T12 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T10 at the Open Championship, T6 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T4 at the BMW Championship and T9 at the Tour Championship.

Other noteable results achieved by Homa last season include winning the Fortinet Championship and finishing T20 at the Shriners Children's Open, T23 at the CJ Cup, 17th at the Hero World Challenge, T3 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and victory at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Homa was also 2nd at the Genesis Invitational, T14 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T6 at the Players Championship, T9 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T8 at the Wells Fargo Championship and T9 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The world's seventh-ranked player has compiled an impressive record at this event, finishing T9 in 2013, T39 in 2014, MC in 2016, T60 in 2018, and T62 in 2019 before winning back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.

Homa has been ultra-consistent lately and looks hard to stop in this field. Can he capture the Fortinet Championship for the third year in a row?

Cameron Davis

Cameron Davis has been playing well on the PGA Tour in recent months, placing T17 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, MC at the Scottish Open, T10 at the 3M Open, T7 at the Wyndham Championship and T6 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship before finishing 40th at the Tour Championship.

Additional highlights achieved by Davis last season include placing T29 at the ZOZO Championship, T13 at the CJ Cup, T7 at the Australian PGA Championship, T6 at the Players Championship, T17 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, T7 at the RBC Heritage and T4 at the PGA Championship.

The 28-year-old Australian has made five appearances at the Fortinet Championship, finishing T17 in 2018, MC in 2019, T36 in 2020, T27 in 2021 and MC in 2022.

Davis has solid form and can lift the trophy at the Silverado Country Club come Sunday if he can replicate his recent performances.

Stephan Jaeger

Stephan Jaeger found consistency in his game on the PGA Tour during the latter half of the season, placing T24 at the Memorial Tournament, T64 at the Travelers Championship, T9 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T13 at the John Deere Classic, T34 at the Barracuda Championship, T14 at the Wyndham Championship and T20 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in his last eight tournaments.

Other noteworthy performances by Jaeger include finishing T9 at the Houston Open, T28 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T14 at the Honda Classic, T27 at the Valspar Championship, T18 at the Mexico Open, T27 at the Well Fargo Championship and T11 at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

The German golfer does not have the best record at the Fortinet Championship, placing T30 in 2017, MC in 2018, MC in 2021 and MC in 2022.

Jaeger has been thereabouts lately and will have a chance of victory if he hits his stride in Napa Valley.

Alex Noren

Alex Noren has struggled on the PGA Tour for most of the 2022/23 season but has shown that he is getting back to his best in recent months by placing T12 at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed (DP World Tour), MC at the US Open, T9 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, MC at the Genesis Scottish Open, T23 at the Open Championship, T13 at the 3M Open and T38 at the Wyndham Championship.

Other prominent performances achieved by Noren this season include finishing T4 at the Cadence Houston Open, T5 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship (DP World Tour), T15 at the Valero Texas Open and T29 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The Swede finished T36 overall on debut at the Fortinet Championship in 2022.

Noren appears to have turned the corner and could cause an upset victory in California come Sunday.

Verdict

Homa loves this golf course and has the form to threepeat at the Fortinet Championship this weekend.

Davis will fancy his chances to take the title as he has had three top-ten finishes in his last four starts.

Jaeger has been playing well and offers an excellent each-way bet in California this weekend.

Noren has been threatening to put in a big performance lately and is the long-shot value bet at the Silverado Country Club.
