The Orioles began September with a good run of form that saw them put together a seven-game win streak.
That run was ended by a 7-3 defeat in Boston, and although they bounced back to beat St Louis 11-5 in their next outing, that victory did not spark another streak.
Instead Baltimore lost the next two games against the Cardinals, 5-2 and 0-1, and then suffered back-to-back losses to Tampa, falling to 4-3 and 7-1 defeats.
The Orioles got back on track against the Rays though, winning the final two games 8-0 and 5-4 to split the series.
Houston Astros Form
Houston came into this series on a poor run of form, having blown hot and cold in recent weeks.
The Astros started September by getting swept at home by the New York Yankees, losing 6-2, 5-4 and 6-1.
They bounced back emphatically by sweeping Texas in a big division series, winning 13-6, 14-1 and 12-3, and then rebounded from an 11-2 loss to San Diego with 7-5 and 12-2 victories.
Houston enjoyed less success in their next two series though, losing 4-0 and 6-2 to Oakland before winning the final game of the series 6-2.
The Astros then avoided being swept by Kansas City as they won 7-1 in response to 4-2 and 10-8 defeats to the Royals.
Verdict
Baltimore are picking up steam after three good wins, and they are backed to make it four-in-a-row by taking advantage of a pitcher who is struggling at home.
