Kansas City booked their place in the postseason by compiling an 86-76 record to finish second in the American League Central.
The Royals ended the regular season with four wins in their final six games to steady the ship after a seven-game losing skid.
That rough run started as they were beaten 4-3 in Pittsburgh, before returning home to get swept in three-game series by both Detroit and San Francisco.
Kansas City stopped the rot when they went out on the road though, sweeping Washington thanks to 1-0, 3-0 and 7-4 victories.
The Royals then moved on to Atlanta where they rebounded from 3-0 and 2-1 defeats to the Braves with a 4-2 win in the series finale.
Baltimore Orioles Form
Baltimore put together a 91-71 record in the regular season to finish second in the American League East, three games behind the New York Yankees.
The Orioles’ chances of winning the division were effectively ended by a rough run in September that saw them lose 11 times during a 16-game spell.
They did end the regular season on a positive note though, as they went out on the road to win five of their final six games.
Baltimore started that road trip with a visit to New York, where they beat the Yankees 5-3 and 9-7 before dropping the series finale 10-1.
The Orioles then moved on to Minnesota where they swept the Twins in a three-game series, winning 7-2, 9-2 and 6-2.
Verdict
We have two solid pitchers coming off strong starts in the opening game of this playoff series, so runs could be limited.
And in a low-scoring game, we lean towards a Baltmore team who had Kansas City's number during the regular season.
