Nishikori Seeks Positive Return to Washington
Kei Nishikori has been hampered by multiple injury setbacks in recent years and has struggled to overcome those issues, preventing him from competing consistently at full fitness.
This season, he has once again dealt with recurring shoulder problems that have limited his schedule. Nishikori has played five Challenger events this year, clearing the opening round in three of them. Amid ongoing concerns over his physical condition, he has also announced that he plans to retire at the end of the season.

Shang Hoping for a Fresh Start
Juncheng Shang sustained a foot injury last year that required surgery and struggled to regain full fitness, limiting him to only a handful of tournaments.
This year, he has played only four events. His best results came with a quarterfinal appearance in Hong Kong and a second-round run at the Australian Open before another injury setback sidelined him. He has not played a match since February.
This will be just his third appearance in Washington. He has cleared the opening round in both of his previous visits, reaching the third round in 2023 and the second round in 2024.
