The Yankees kicked off their playoff campaign with a 6-5 win over the Royals, and then bounced back from a 4-2 home defeat with a 3-2 win in KC that has them on the verge of advancing.

They secured their place in the postseason with a 94-68 record that won them the American League East and earned them a bye.

New York finished three games clear of Baltimore, but they ended the season in underwhelming form.

The Yankees played back-to-back home series against the Orioles and Pittsburgh, and they needed Game 3 victory in both of those series to avoid being swept.

Kansas City Royals Form

Kansas City go into their final home game of this series on the brink of elimination following the defeat in Game 3.

The Royals began this series with a 6-5 road defeat to the Yankees, and then failed to build on a 4-2 win in the ‘Big Apple’ as they were beaten 3-2 at home on Wednesday night.

They earned their spot in the postseason by putting together a 86-76 record to finish second in the American League Central.

Kansas City ended the regular season on a rough run of form, losing nine of their final 13 games, but put that behind them in the Wild Card round.

The Royals headed to Baltimore for a three-game series and were able to take out the Orioles in two, winning 1-0 and 2-1.
