San Diego entered this series on the back of a loss, but in good form having won five of their previous six games.
The Padres endured a season-worst slump in the second half of April as they suffered five consecutive defeats.
They lost 10-9 at home to Colorado, before returning home for 9-3, 5-1 and 8-5 defeats to Philadelphia, and a 5-2 loss to Cincinnati.
San Diego started the turnaround against the Reds though, winning the next two meetings 6-4 and 6-2.
The Padres then travelled to Arizona and won the first two meetings with the Diamondbacks, 7-1 and 13-1, before losing the series finale 11-4.
Chicago Cubs Form
Chicago came into this series on an inconsistent run of form, having gone 4-6 in their previous 10 games.
The Cubs enjoyed a four-game win streak in the latter half of April – a run that included a three-game sweep of Houston at home.
That consistency disappeared before the end of the month though, as they lost 17-0 and 5-4 in Boston, before splitting a four-game series at the New York Mets.
Chicago won the series opener 3-1, only to lose the second meeting 4-2, and they then failed to build on a 1-0 victory over the Mets as they lost the series finale 7-6.
The Cubs then began the home series against Milwaukee with a 3-1 loss, but they rallied over the next two games to beat the Brewers 6-5 and 5-0.
Verdict
Chicago are in good form at home and are sending an in-form pitcher to the mound, so we like the Cubs as an underdog in this one.
