The Padres ended August on a three-game losing skid that saw them lose 6-5 and 5-4 at St Louis, before suffering a 7-2 defeat at home to San Francisco.
They were able to stop the rot on the first day of September as they beat the Giants 7-3 in the second game of that series.
San Diego then backed up that victory with two more wins over San Francisco, winning 6-1 and 4-0.
The Padres cooled against Philadelphia though, sandwiching an 8-0 victory with 9-7 and 5-1 defeats.
Houston Astros Form
Houston come into this series on a three-game win streak that got them back on track after a run end to last week.
The Astros ended August on a five-game win streak that saw them bounce back from a 4-1 defeat with 9-2 and 17-4 wins over the Tigers,
They then backed that up as they travelled to Boston to sweep the Red Sox in three games, winning 13-5, 6-2 and 7-4.
However, Houston’s streak was brought to a sudden halt as they suffered surprise 6-2, 5-4 and 6-1 defeats at the hands of the New York Yankees.
The Astros’ response was emphatic though, as they visited the Texas Rangers and beat them 13-6, 14-1 and 12-3.
Verdict
San Diego's edge at pitcher is likely to be negated by some terrible road form, so we are backing in-form Houston to win again.
