The Celtics began their defence of the NBA crown with a 132-109 victory when they hosted the Knicks on Tuesday.
It was the perfect start for a team that dominated the NBA on their way to a record-setting 18th championship last season.
Boston compiled a 64-18 regular season record, finishing 14 games clear of the Knicks in the Eastern Conference.
The Celtics then dropped just three games in the postseason as they wrapped up the NBA title with a 4-1 series victory over Dallas.
Washington Wizards Form
Washington enter the new season looking to improve on a miserable 2023/24 season that saw them win just 15 regular season games.
The Wizards had made it to the Play-In Tournament a year earlier, but struggled all season long and ended the campaign by losing nine of their final 10 games, including each of the last six.
The come into this new season having gone 2-3 during their pre-season preparations, starting with a 125-98 defeat to Toronto.
Washington then travelled to New York for a 117-94 loss to the Knicks, before finally getting off the mark with a 113-95 victory over Toronto.
The Wizards failed to build on that as they were beaten 131-92 in Brooklyn, but they did wrap up the pre-season on a positive note, beating New York 118-117.
Verdict
Boston blew past New York and we expect to see similar scenes in Washington.
The Wizards are in rebuild mode and are unlikely to lay a glove on a Celtics team targeting back-to-back titles.
