Cleveland head into this series-opening matchup having edged out Orlando in a seven-game series.
The Cavaliers, who compiled a 48-34 record season to finish fourth in the Eastern Conference, had home advantage to thank for their 4-3 series win over the Magic.
They opened up the series with back-to-back home games and ran out winners in a couple of low-scoring games, winning 97-83 and 96-86.
Cleveland failed to build on that on the road as they were blown out 121-83 and 112-89, but they bounced back at home with a 104-103 victory.
The Cavaliers then failed to clinch on the road, losing 103-96, only to successfully retain their perfect home record with a series-clinching 106-94 victory in Game 7.
Boston Celtics Form
Boston booked their place in the second round of the playoffs with a 4-1 series victory over Miami.
The Celtics compiled a league-best 64-18 record during the regular season, and they got off to a winning start in the postseason.
They opened up the playoffs with a 114-94 win over the Heat, only to suffer a surprise 111-101 defeat in Game 2 that gave their opponents a slight edge.
Boston issued an emphatic response on the road though, as they recorded 104-84 and 102-88 wins in Miami.
The Celtics then returned home to wrap up the series in Game 5, downing the Heat 118-84 at the TD Garden.
Verdict
Cleveland’s offensive struggles in the first round are a major red flag here.
Boston are the better team and have the firepower to make this turn ugly fast, so we like the Celtics issuing a big statement here.
