They wrapped up the regular season with a three-game win streak and then won back-to-back games in the conference tournament.
The Bruins downed Washington State 75-65 and #21 USC 69-59 to book their place in the Pac-12 final.
UCLA came up short though, losing 84-76 to #2 Arizona in Vegas.
They bounced back in the first round of March Madness, although their 57-53 win over Akron was not convincing.
Their second round win over #18 St Mary’s (CA) was though – the Bruins advanced with a 72-56 win.
Four of their five starters hit double digits in points, with Tyger Campbell leading the way with 16 points.
North Carolina Form
North Carolina have won eight of their last nine games heading into this March Madness Sweet 16 clash.
The Tar Heels ended the regular season on a five-game win streak that included a 94-81 upset of #4 Duke.
They then took that streak to six games with a 64-43 blowout of Virginia in the first round of the ACC conference tournament.
North Carolina fell in the next round though, suffering a 72-59 defeat at the hands of Virginia Tech.
UNC responded to that disappointment with a ruthless 95-63 win over Marquette in the first round of March Madness.
The Tar Heels then followed that up with a sensational 93-86 overtime upset of #4 Baylor.
RJ Davis grabbed the headlines as he poured in 30 points and recorded six assists and five rebounds, while Brady Manek also shone with 26 points and five boards.
Verdict
The bookies are backing UCLA here, but we believe that has given extra value to North Carolina.
The Tar Heels are winning and covering routinely, and they just knocked out the defending champions.
