The Hurricanes enjoyed a dream start to the season as they beat Notre Dame 27-24, and after blowing out Bethune-Cookman, 45-3, they beat reeled off three big in-state wins.
They crushed South Florida 49-12, dominated Florida in a 26-7 win, and then took down Florida State on the road 28-22.
Miami’s playoff hopes took a massive hit over the next few weeks though, as they sandwiched a 42-7 rout of Stanford with a 24-21 loss to Louisville and a 26-20 defeat at SMU.
The Hurricanes have got back on track over the past few weeks though, backing up a 38-10 win against Syracuse with a 41-7 victory over NC State and a 34-17 success at Virginia Tech.

Pitt go into this matchup having kept their ACC Championship bid alive with last week’s upset of Georgia tech, which took them to 8-3.
The Panthers opened with back-to-back non-conference wins, but saw their flying start end with a 31-24 defeat to West Virginia.
They then dropped their ACC opener to Louisville, 34-27, but rebounded over the next several weeks to win five straight conference matchups.
Pitt blew out Boston College, 48-7, and backed that up by beating Florida State 34-31, Syracuse 30-13, NC State 53-34 and Stanford 35-20.
The Panthers failed to make it six wins in a row as they lost 37-15 to Notre Dame in a non-conference game, but a return to ACC duty brought a return to winning ways, as they beat Georgia Tech 42-28.
Verdict
Miami are the better team, but they have had major problems covering the spread at a time where they need to be blowing out opponents.
