Detroit enter the new campaign looking to bounce back from a disappointing end to the 2024 season that saw them crash out of the playoffs and lose their two co-ordinators.
The Lions made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game in 2023, so hopes were high that the franchise could finally end their Super Bowl drought last season.
They enjoyed an outstanding regular season that saw them win 15 of their 17 games and go a perfect 6-0 in the division.
However, Detroit’s Super Bowl quest was derailed by injuries and their playoff run proved to be short.
Having earned a bye for Wild card weekend, the Lions’ season was brought to a shuddering halt as they lost 45-31 at home to Washington in the Division round.
Green Bay Packers Form
Green Bay also come into the 2025 campaign with their sights set on challenging for the Super Bowl.
The Packers endured a rough run in the NFC North last year as they lost all but one of their division games, but that did not cost them a playoff pace.
They advanced to the postseason with an 11-6 record, only to enter the playoffs in poor form following back-to-back defeats to close out the regular season.
Green Bay were beaten 27-25 on the road in Minnesota, before giving up a last-gasp field goal to lose 24-22 at home to Chicago.
The Packers’ losing skid then reached three games as their season was ended by a 22-10 defeat in Philadelphia in the Wild card round.
Verdict
It is tough to ignore Detroit’s recent record against Green Bay, both overall and especially at Lambeau.
The Lions have repeatedly got the better of the Packers and they return with a stacked roster, so give us the visitors in the underdog role.
