Houston Texans at New England Patriots Preview & Picks

New England are tipped to cover as they secure a return to the AFC Championship.

We have two impressive defenses on show in this one, but the Patriots have the edge on offense with Drake Maye in excellent form this season.

CJ Stroud, on the other hand, has had his issues and just lost a key weapon in Nico Collins.

  • New England Patriots are 14-1 in their last 15 games
  • New England Patriots are 12-3-0 ATS in their last 15 games
  • The Under has cashed in 7 of Houston’s 9 road games

Head To Head

  • New England Patriots lead the all-time series 11-4
  • Houston Texans won 41-21 when the two teams last met in October 2024

Houston Texans Form

Houston head to Foxborough as one of the hottest teams in the postseason, having now won 10 consecutive games.

The Texans’ dug themselves into a hole over the first two months of the season as they lost each of their first three games and five of the opening eight matchups.

A 36-29 victory over Jacksonville changed everything though, as it proved to be the start of a nine-game win streak that secured them a Wild Card berth.

Houston won 16-13 in Tennessee, and then backed up a 23-19 home upset of Buffalo with road successes at Indianapolis, 20-16, and Kansas City, 20-10.

The Texans then beat Arizona 40-20 and Las Vegas 23-21 at home, before following up a 20-16 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers with a 38-30 home win against Indianapolis.

They then made it 10 wins in a row during the Wild Card round, as they blew out Pittsburgh on the road, 30-6.

New England Patriots Form

New England may not be on as long a win streak as Houston, but they are also in tremendous form with 14 wins in their last 15 games.

The Patriots stumbled early as they lost two of their first three games, but they quickly found some form and reeled off 10 consecutive victories to enter a late-season bye at 11-2.

That surge included a crucial 23-20 victory when they visited division rivals Buffalo in early October.

New England’s streak was ended in their first game back after the bye as they lost 35-31 to Buffalo, but they responded with three straight wins to clinch the AFC East.

The Patriots went out on the road to beat Baltimore 28-24 and the New York Jets 42-10, before returning home to down Miami 38-10.

They then made it four-in-a-row in the first round of the playoffs, as they downed the Los Angeles Chargers, 16-3.

Verdict

Two in-form teams go head-to-head here, and you could make a case for either.

New England do have home advantage and appear to have the better quarterback, so we are leaning towards the Patriots here.
