The Red Wings began 2026 with back-to-back defeats to Pittsburgh, losing 4-3 in overtime on the road and 4-1 in regulation at home, but they have turned things around since then.
They got back on track with a 5-3 victory in Ottawa, and backed that up as they beat Vancouver 5-1 at home, Montreal 4-0 on the road and Carolina 4-3 in overtime at home.
Detroit’s run was finally ended by a 3-0 defeat in Boston, but they responded to that setback by reeling off three more wins.
The Red Wings beat San Jose 4-3 and Ottawa 4-3 in regulation at home, before heading to Toronto to down the Maple Leafs 2-1.
Minnesota Wild Form
Minnesota enter this matchup having made an underwhelming start to 2026 with six defeats in 10 games.
The Wild began the year with a 5-2 victory in Anaheim, but failed to follow that up in Los Angeles as they lost back-to-back meetings with the Kings, 5-4 and 4-2.
They rallied in Seattle to beat the Kraken 3-2 in overtime, only to then return home and lose three straight, falling 4-3 in overtime to the New York Islanders, 5-2 to New Jersey and 6-2 to Winnipeg.
Minnesota stopped the rot with a 5-4 overtime success in Buffalo, and backed that up in Toronto as they downed the Maple Leafs, 6-3.
The Wild failed to make it three wins in a row though, as they lost 4-3 in Montreal last time out.
Verdict
Minnesota have home advantage here, but Detroit offer plenty of appeal as they underdog.
