Great Britain secured a return to the top level of men’s ice hockey by finishing top of their group in the World Championship Division 1 a year ago.
Team GB won all five games in the tournament, starting with a 4-0 shutout of South Korea in their opening game.
They then beat Poland 5-4 in overtime, before wrapping up their participation with three straight wins in regulation.
Great Britain posted shutouts as they beat Lithuania 3-0 and Romania 7-0, before finishing off with a 5-3 victory over Italy.
Team GB then went 3-0 in Olympic Games qualifying, before preparing for this tournament with a 3-1 and 2-1 wins over Poland, and a 5-2 defeat to Kazkahstan.
Canada Form
Canada put their 2022 disappointment behind them as they went all the way to win the World Championship a year ago.
The Canadians finished second in their group and although they recorded some convincing wins, there were some underwhelming outings too.
They lost 3-2 to Switzerland and 3-2 to Norway late in the group stage, but they wrapped that part of the tournament up with a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic and never looked back.
Canada beat Finland 4-1 in the quarter-finals and Latvia 4-2 in the semi-finals, before clinching the world championship crown with a 5-2 success against Germany.
The Canadians have warmed up for their defence of the title by beating Austria 5-1 and Hungary 4-0 in recent days.
Verdict
This could get ugly for a British team who are playing in top level ice hockey for the first time since 2021.
