This sequence began on the road as the Penguins lost three straight, falling 4-3 to Florida, 6-1 in Tampa and 7-3 at Buffalo.
They avoid a fourth straight loss with a 1-0 overtime win at home to Ottawa, only to then lose 5-4 in overtime when they visited St Louis.
Pittsburgh rebounded immediately from that loss, winning 5-4 in Dallas, only to then split back-to-back meetings with Chicago.
The Penguins were beaten 3-1 when they visited the ‘Windy City’, but they avenged that loss two nights later by beating the Blackhawks 5-0 at home.
New Jersey Devils Form
New Jersey got into this series looking to rebound from a defeat that ended a three-game winning run.
The Devils lost three straight in late March, before ending that losing skid with a 5-3 victory in Chicago.
They failed to back that up as they then lost 4-0 in Winnipeg, but they did issue a swift response in the form of a 5-2 win at Minnesota.
New Jersey were able to follow up that victory with two more, as they beat Minnesota 3-2 and the New York Rangers 4-0.
The Devils failed to make it four-in-a-row though, as they were beaten 7-2 by Boston on Tuesday night.
Verdict
New Jersey were beaten when the teams met last month, but the Devils have largely owned the Penguins in recent years.
They are the better team in better form, so we expect the home side to deliver here.
