The Capitals squandered home advantage as they lost 2-1 in overtime in the series-opener, but they put that behind them on Thursday as they ran out 3-1 winners in Game 2.

Washington opened with back-to-back home victories over Montreal, winning 3-2 in overtime and 3-1 in regulation.
The Capitals then rebounded from a 6-3 defeat to the Canadiens with a 5-2 road win and a 4-1 home victory to secure a 4-1 series success.
Carolina Hurricanes Form
Carolina return home on the back of a loss but in a good position, having won one of the two road games to start this series.
The Hurricanes made the perfect start as they won 2-1 in overtime in Washington, but they failed to follow that up as they were beaten 3-1 in Game 2.
They claimed their place in the postseason by compiling a 47-30-5 record, and they advance to this round by beating New Jersey in five games.
Carolina opened the series with 4-1 and 3-1 victories at home, only to suffer a 3-2 overtime defeat when they went out on the road for the first time.
The Hurricanes responded immediately though, winning 5-2 in New Jersey, and they then returned home to wrap up the series with a 5-4 victory in overtime.
Verdict
Carolina failed to return home with the lead, but they will be feeling pretty good after going 1-1 in New Jersey.
The Hurricanes have been excellent at home in recent weeks and are flawless at the Lenovo Center in the postseason so far, so we are backing the hosts to take a 2-1 series lead.
