Arsenal vs Coventry City
Premier League champions Arsenal begin the defence of their title against newly-promoted Coventry City at the Emirates on Friday.
The Gunners finished seven points clear of Manchester City last season and, having strengthened their squad with the additions of Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis, begin the new campaign as short-priced favourites to retain their crown.
Visiting Coventry come into their first Premier League fixture in 25 years with plenty of confidence after a superb Championship-winning campaign.
Frank Lampard’s side have made some canny summer signings, including Japan international Daizen Maeda, and they should present a threat to a Gunners side that kicked off their campaign with an emphatic 3-0 Community Shield victory against Manchester City.
With the Sky Blues intent on an attack-minded approach, I expect a high-scoring home win at the Emirates.
Prediction: 3-1
Best Bet - Arsenal to Win & Over 2.5 Goals
Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United
Nottingham Forest and Leeds United meet at the City Ground on Saturday in what promises to be a competitive and lively affair.
Goals were a feature of last season’s meetings between these sides. Forest claimed a 3-1 victory at the City Ground in November before Leeds secured three points at Elland Road by the same scoreline.
Daniel Farke’s men have impressed in pre-season, picking up fine wins against RB Leipzig (2-0) and Augsburg (4-0) as well as a superb 4-2 comeback win against Liverpool.
Forest also enjoyed some success this summer, scoring twice in recent wins against Bayer Leverkusen and Brest.
Given last season’s matchups and both sides' strong summer form, I expect both teams to get on the scoresheet at the City Ground.
Prediction: 2-2
Best Bet - BTTS
Brighton vs Aston Villa
Goals look likely at the Amex Stadium when Brighton entertain Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Villains have been involved in several high-scoring pre-season contests. All eight of their summer warm-up fixtures finished with over 2.5 goals scored, including a 2-1 defeat in the final of the Super Cup against PSG. Each of their last seven games also finished with BTTS.
Brighton were also involved in some high-scoring summer contests, beating Wycombe 4-1, Strasbourg 4-3 and Roma 3-0 before rounding off their preparations with a 1-0 victory against Bologna.
Past encounters also point towards the goal markets, with seven of nine previous matchups seeing over 2.5 goals scored. Villa secured a 4-3 win at the AMEX last December, and another thriller could be on the cards this weekend.
Prediction: 2-2

Manchester City vs Bournemouth
Manchester City begin a new era when they welcome Bournemouth to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Enzo Maresca takes charge of his first EPL game in the Citizens' hot seat after replacing Pep Guardiola earlier this summer and the former Chelsea boss needs a response after last weekend's Community Shield defeat.
The Blues struggled to deal with a strong Arsenal side in their 3-0 reversal last weekend, and should be wary of a Cherries side also starting a new era, with Marco Rose replacing Andoni Iraola in the Bournemouth dugout.
High-scoring encounters have been frequent in past meetings between these sides. All but two of their last 12 meetings finished with BTTS, with an average of over 3.5 goals per game scored in those contests.
While City will be expected to win, I have my stake on a high-scoring win with at least three goals scored.
Prediction: 3-2

Newcastle United vs Liverpool
Sunday's standout fixture sees Newcastle welcome Liverpool to St James' Park with both sides beginning the new season under new management.
Matthias Jaissle takes charge of his first competitive game as Newcastle boss after replacing Eddie Howe earlier this summer, while former Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola begins his Liverpool reign after succeeding Arne Slot.
Both sides have seen plenty of high-scoring contests this summer, while past meetings also suggest a strong probability of goals this weekend. All but one of seven contests over the past three years finished with BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored.
Liverpool claimed 4-1 and 3-2 wins against the Magpies last season, and I expect another entertaining affair that could finish deadlocked.
Prediction: 2-2

Kicking off the action on Saturday lunchtime, newly-promoted Hull City welcome Manchester United to the MKM Stadium. The Tigers return to the Premier League following a ten-year absence while Michael Carrick begins his first full season in charge of United.
Hull could bring up a BTTS pick, but United should have the edge in a potentially competitive contest.
Later on Saturday, Everton take on Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Toffees won three of their final four pre-season matches, including a 3-1 success against Newcastle, while Palace failed to score in four of their six summer fixtures. A home win looks a decent option for big odds accas.
In another 3 pm kick-off, newly-promoted Ipswich host Sunderland at Portman Road. Ipswich won five of their six warm-up matches, including an impressive 4-2 victory against Union Berlin, while Sunderland bagged victories in their last two warm-up fixtures.
Both teams may have to settle for a point with a low-score draw, my expected outcome in Suffolk.
The late kick-off on Saturday sees Brentford face Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium. Brentford enjoyed a perfect pre-season, winning all four fixtures including a remarkable 7-0 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend.
Tottenham have invested wisely this summer after narrowly avoiding EPL relegation, and a competitive contest should see both teams get on the scoresheet. Again, a share of the spoils looks the likeliest outcome.
Finally, on Monday evening, Fulham entertain Chelsea at Craven Cottage in a west London derby. The Blues are expected to flourish under new boss Xabi Alonso, and I fancy the visitors to pick up the points against a Fulham side that could struggle this season.
Verdict
The 2026/27 Premier League season gets underway this weekend, with Arsenal backed for a high-scoring opening win and goals expected in several of the standout fixtures, including Manchester City vs Bournemouth and Newcastle vs Liverpool.
