Fonseca Reaches Career Best Quarterfinal

Joao Fonseca reached the quarterfinal in Monte Carlo with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win over Matteo Berrettini. He was broken once but converted four of six break-point chances.

He had already achieved his best Masters result by reaching the round of 16 at Indian Wells, where he lost to Jannik Sinner. This run takes him a step further, marking the biggest result of his career so far.

Fonseca had a slow start to the season, losing three of his first four matches, but has bounced back strongly in recent weeks, showing his rapid development and growing confidence.

He now holds a 2-2 record in tour-level quarterfinals, with losses in Rio de Janeiro and Bucharest, and wins in Buenos Aires and Basel.

Zverev Continues Strong Masters Run

Alexander Zverev defeated Zizou Bergs 6-2, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinal in Monte Carlo. Despite being broken twice, he remained in control throughout the match.

This is his third quarterfinal appearance here and his first since 2022. He won his previous quarterfinals in 2018 and 2022, defeating Richard Gasquet and Jannik Sinner respectively.

Last year, Zverev played five clay-court quarterfinals, losing four of them, with his only win coming during his title run in Munich.

He is now one win away from reaching four consecutive Masters semifinals, following runs in Paris, Indian Wells, and Miami, all of which ended against Sinner.
