Luciano Darderi is having a very smooth week in Marrakech, playing just one match so far after a bye and a walkover. That leaves him fresh and confident, and with his strong clay form this season, he is well placed to continue his title defense.

  • He has lost four of his last eight matches vs outside Top 100 players.

Darderi Continues Strong Title Defense

Luciano Darderi moved into the semifinals after Yannick Hanfmann withdrew due to illness. He had earlier defeated Mattia Bellucci in the opening round.

The Italian faced some pressure coming in as defending champion after back-to-back opening-round losses in Indian Wells and Miami. However, he has managed a smooth run so far this week.

Aside from those recent setbacks, he had a strong start to the season, winning the title in Santiago, finishing runner-up in Buenos Aires, and reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open, which helped him break into the top 20.

Darderi holds an impressive 6-2 record in tour-level semifinals, all on clay. He is currently on a five-match winning streak at this stage and has not lost a semifinal since the start of 2025.

Trungelliti Battles Into Marrakech Semifinals

Marco Trungelliti moved into the semifinals in Marrakech with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win over Corentin Moutet. It marks the fifth top-50 win of his career.

He began the year with three consecutive qualifying exits before taking a short break. Since then, he has rediscovered his form with a Challenger title and another deep run in Kigali, and is now on a 10-match winning streak.

This is a huge confidence boost at this stage of his career. Before this week, he had won just five main-draw matches on tour over the past seven years, and this run will see him break into the top 100.

It is only the second tour-level semifinal of his career. His previous appearance at this stage came in 2018, where he lost to Marco Cecchinato.

Verdict

With the freshness and form on his side, this sets up nicely for him. Darderi to win in straight sets looks the most likely outcome in this semifinal.
