Berrettini Destroys Medvedev In Monaco

Matteo Berrettini produced a stunning performance to defeat Daniil Medvedev 6-0, 6-0 in the second round in Monte Carlo. It marks the first double-bagel win of his career.

With this result, he has now won all 16 games he has played this week, after his previous opponent Roberto Bautista Agut retired while trailing 0-4.

This is a much-needed boost for Berrettini, who has struggled with fitness issues in recent years and has not gone beyond the quarterfinal stage on tour since 2024.

He has previously reached the round of 16 twice in Monte Carlo, losing both times, withdrawing in 2023 and falling to Lorenzo Musetti last year.

Fonseca Eyes Maiden Masters Quarterfinal

Joao Fonseca moved into the round of 16 with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Arthur Rinderknech. He saved 10 of 12 break points and converted three of seven chances.

The Brazilian has shown clear improvement in recent weeks. After winning just one match across his first three events, including a first-round loss in Buenos Aires, he reached the fourth round in Indian Wells and the second round in Miami.

Both of his recent losses came against top players, pushing Jannik Sinner to two tiebreaks in Miami and falling 6-4, 6-4 to Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells.

Fonseca now eyes his first Masters quarterfinal and his first tour-level quarterfinal since Basel last year.

Verdict

Despite Berrettini’s momentum, the consistency and level favor Fonseca. Fonseca to win is the preferred pick, with Fonseca to win in straight sets also firmly in play.
