Houston go into their final game of the regular season having won only one of their nine games so far.
The Roughnecks opened up with an 18-12 defeat to Memphis, before going out on the road to lose 23-18 in DC and 34-20 at Michigan.
They finally registered their first win in Week 4, beating Arlington 17-9, but they have not recorded a single victory since then.
Houston returned to losing ways with a 32-9 blowout loss to Birmingham, and then fell 22-8 at St Louis and 15-12 at home to St Louis.
The Roughnecks’ skid continued with a 35-28 loss in Birmingham, and then reached five games last weekend as they were beaten 26-22 at home by Michigan.
Memphis Showboats Form
Memphis go into their last game of the 2024 regular season riding a league-worst eight-game losing run.
The Showboats opened the season with an 18-12 victory on the road in Houston, but they have not managed to win since then.
A late collapse condemned them to a 20-19 defeat when they hosted San Antonio, and they then went out on the road to lose 33-14 in Birmingham and 32-17 at St Louis.
Memphis then returned home to lose 35-18 to Michigan and 39-21 to Birmingham, before going back out on the road to lose 47-23 in Arlington and 24-18 at Michigan.
The Showboats’ losing skid then reached eight games last weekend, as they were beaten 36-21 by the DC Defenders.
Verdict
Two bad teams have an incentive to win this game in the form of the number one pick in the draft.
