Michigan Panthers Form
Michigan clinched their place in the playoffs by putting together a 6-4 regular season record to finish second in the USFL Conference.
The Panthers enjoyed a winning start to the season as they beat Memphis on the road, 26-12, only to lose 21-12 in their home opener against Birmingham a week later.
They rebounded from that by beating San Antonio 26-23 and Memphis 27-9, but failed to make it three-in-a-row as they fell 32-27 in St Louis.
Michigan rallied though, and embarked on a three-game win streak as they took down DC at home, 38-14, before heading out on the road to beat Arlington 25-24 and Houston 30-18.
That proved to be enough for a Panthers team that then closed out the regular season with back-to-back defeats, losing 26-22 in Birmingham and 19-12 at home to Houston.
Birmingham Stallions Form
Birmingham ensured another trip to the postseason as they compiled a 7-3 record to finish top of the USFL Conference standings.
The defending champion Stallions lost their opening game of the season, 18-11 in DC, but quickly got on track.
They beat Michigan 21-12 on the road to get off the mark, and backed that up with a 10-9 win at home to Arlington and a 23-17 success in Houston.
Birmingham failed to make it four-in-a-row as they suffered a shock 24-20 loss to Memphis, but they again rebounded quickly from a setback as they beat San Antonio 26-3 and Houston 33-25.
The Stallions then lost 29-28 in St Louis, only to close out the regular season by beating Michigan 26-22 at home and Memphis 46-9 on the road.
Verdict
Birmingham have won three straight spring titles, and although they have shown some vulnerabilities this season, it feels foolish to bet against them in the 2025 playoffs.
