WWE SummerSlam Sunday Predictions & Picks – Roman Reigns To Retain Against Seth Rollins

That main event for the second night at US Bank Stadium sees ‘The Tribal Chief’, Roman Reigns, defend his World Heavyweight Championship against former Shield stablemate and long-time rival Seth Rollins. This rivalry dates all the way back to 2014, when Rollins turned on his Shield brothers, and has produced some of the most memorable moments in WWE history – including several spectacular WrestleMania highlights. What will we see on Sunday? 

The rest of the card features multiple title matchups – including a ladder match for the interim WWE Women’s title – as well as a number one contender’s clash and a bout that will see Human Monies hang from a pole. Yes, I wrote that. And no, Vince Russo is not back with WWE.

But who will leave US Bank Stadium as a champion, and will Danhausen continue to curse the Judgement Day and take those Human Monies back to his lab? Here are our predictions for the second night of the hottest event of the summer:

Roman Reigns has been the WWE’s biggest star since the pandemic – nobody gets a reaction quite like ‘The Tribal Chief’. And while he has lost matches along the way, the WWE have been very careful when it comes to Reigns suffering defeats. He very rarely comes out on the wrong end of a feud.

However, one rival who has repeatedly got the better of Reigns is Seth Rollins. ‘The Visionary’ famously cashed in the Money in the Bank contract to cost his former Shield buddy the world title at WrestleMania in 2017, and then in 2024 he played a pivotal role in helping Cody Rhodes finally end Reign’s long reign as champion at Mania. And of course, who can forget just over a year ago when he beat Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania and took away ‘The Wise Man’ Paul Heyman too. Simply put, Rollins has haunted Reigns.

That has been the catalyst for this current instalment in the rivalry – can Reigns finally exorcise the demons and beat Rollins on the big stage? For us, the answer is yes.

Tiffany Stratton standing atop the ladder holding the women’s championship in her home town… that is something dreams are made of. However, we expect Blake Monroe to get in the way of that.

Instead we are leaning towards a Charlotte Flair win. WWE appeared to be setting up another run between Flair and Rhea Ripley prior to ‘Mami’ sustaining a knee injury, but it does not sound like she is going to be out of action too long. Therefore putting the belt on Flair and setting up a champion vs interim champion matchup down the line makes sense.

Chad Gable has been on a redemption story that has catapulted his career to another level. His rivalry with El Grand Americano took him from hated villain to beloved superstar, and the only appropriate ending for this part of his story is form him to beat a famous luchador and claim one of the most prestigious prizes in all of wrestling.

Baron Corbin just returned to the company, so you have to question the merits of him losing a high profile bout within weeks of his re-emergence. However, Trick Williams has become a big favourite in a short space of time since arriving on the main roster from NXT, so we lean towards ‘Trick Willy’ retaining.

Sami Zayn’s turn from much-loved babyface to bitter heel has been one of the WWE’s biggest storylines in recent months, but if the company is planning a long-term Punk-Rhodes story, it may not want to interject Zayn into proceedings just yet. That makes a Finn Balor win the way to go, with Zayn descending further into bitterness as a result of the loss.

Dominik Mysterio is the champion of the AAA brand, so having him lose to a midcard comedy act in WWE is a move that would raise some eyebrows. However, Danhausen is one of the most over talents on the roster at this time, and his character allows for wacky booking that can see him claim the Human Monies without damaging Mysterio’s stock.
