NC State’s 41-7 loss at Miami officially took them out of the race, but they did respond to that loss with three straight wins to close out the campaign on a positive note.
The Wolfpack won ACC matchups with Florida State, 21-11, and North Carolina, 42-19, before downing Memphis in the Gasparilla Bowl, 31-7.

Virginia enter the new season looking to replicate last season’s surprise run to the ACC Championship.
Having opened with two wins across three non-conference games, the Cavaliers enjoyed a red-hot start to their ACC campaign.
They beat Stanford 48-20, Florida State 46-38, Louisville 30-28, North Carolina 17-16 and California 31-21 in a five-game tear.
Virginia then responded to a 16-9 loss to Wake Forest with wins against Duke, 34-17, and Virginia Tech, 27-7, and that was enough to secure top spot in the ACC standings.
The Cavaliers came up short in the conference championship, losing 27-20 to Duke, but they did sign off with a victory as they beat Missouri 13-7 in the Gator Bowl.
Verdict
Virginia finished top of the standings last season, three games clear of NC State, but it is tough to ignore the Wolfpack’s recent record in this rivalry.
They have won six of the previous seven meetings, so with a good chunk of the offense returning in 2026, they make for an appealing pick with the free points.
