Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven Predictions & Picks

Oleksandr Usyk is backed to retain his world heavyweight titles via knockout.

We could see some unorthodox stuff from Rico Verhoeven due to him not being a recognised boxer – which means Usyk may need a little time to solve the puzzle.

But Usyk is unlikely to need too much time, resulting in a stoppage in the first half of the contest being streamed live on DAZN.

  • 15 of Oleksandr Usyk’s 24 career wins have been by knockout
  • Oleksandr Usyk knocked out his last challenger inside 6 rounds
  • Rico Verhoeven has been knocked out during his kickboxing career

Oleksandr Usyk Form

Oleksandr Usyk is the defending WBC, WBA (Super) and IBF world heavyweight champion with a perfect professional record of 24-0 (15 KOs).

Usyk made the move up to heavyweight after a dominant run at cruiserweight that earned him the undisputed crown, and he wasted little time in making his presence felt in his new weight class.

The 39-year-old Ukrainian debuted at heavyweight with a seventh-round knockout of Chazz Witherspoon, and then secured a world title fight as he out-pointed Derek Chisora over 12 rounds.

He took his first chance to become a heavyweight champion in September 2021, as he beat Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision to claim the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO belts.

Usyk took the rematch too, beating Joshua via split decision the following summer to add the Ring Magazine title to his collection.

‘The Cat’ then successfully defended his titles with a ninth-round knockout of Daniel Dubois in August 2023, setting up a showdown with Tyson Fury in May 2024 that would crown an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

He won that contest via split decision, and when the two men met seven months later he came out on top again, this time winning by unanimous decision.

Usyk then fought once in 2025, knocking out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to regain the IBF belt that had been stripped from him during the previous year.

Rico Verhoeven Form

Rico Verhoeven has had just one professional boxing match during his glittering career in combat sports.

Verhoeven is best known for his kickboxing exploits, having dominated the heavyweight division in that sport for the past decade as Glory champion.

He has compiled a 66-10 record as a professional kickboxer, registering 21 stoppage wins, and in his only previous boxing outing he had his hand raised.

The 37-year-old Dutchman crossed over to the ‘sweet science’ in April 2014, when he knocked out Kanos Finfera in the second round of a four-round bout.

Verhoeven has also shared the boxing ring with former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, serving as a sparring partner.

Usyk vs Verhoeven - What They Said

Oleksander Usyk: "I truly respect people who reach the very top in their sport. Rico is one of them - a powerful athlete and a great champion. Being a champion isn't just about belts. It's about years of hard work, discipline, and belief. I respect his journey - he's truly the 'King of Kickboxing'. But this is boxing - a different game, with its own rules and its own kings. I'm ready and really looking forward to meeting him in the ring. It's going to be a unique experience for both of us, and I know the fans are excited too. A big night is coming."

Rico Verhoeven: "I spent 12 years as the undisputed heavyweight kickboxing champion and accomplished everything I set out to accomplish. But staying at the top for that long didn't take away the hunger, it strengthened it. I wasn't looking for comfort, so I started looking for the highest challenge available in another world. Usyk is undisputed in boxing. That's the kind of challenge that motivates me. Undisputed versus undisputed. The best facing the best."

Verdict

Oleksander Usyk has dominated the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois in recent years, so it is tough to see Rico Verhoeven pulling off a miracle here.

Usyk is the best heavyweight boxer on the planet by some distance, and he should make straightforward work of the kickboxing standout.
